PROMOTING SALSA music: “What was true yesterday is STILL true today..

PROMOTING SALSA music: “What was true yesterday is STILL true today..

Promotion (marketing): It is the communication link between sellers and buyers for the purpose of influencing, informing, or persuading a potential buyer’s purchasing decision.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Promotion_(marketing)

It doesn’t matter how good it is, or how good you are. If nobody knows about it, it’s like it doesn’t exist. Once you have a product developed, the next thing is to introduce it to others, get the word out. Hopefully you can start people talking about you and/or your product. Make them want to learn more, hear/see more. This is the most important part in development, getting the word out. This part has enable the most mediocre products or unknown artist get to the masses. Make noise and you will get attention. Make enough noise and hopefully recognition will follow.
Has to be seen before it gets recognize.

The importance in any busines, of promoting a product cannot be over stated. If history teaches us anything, it teaches us what was done in the past, how it was done in the past. This
doesn’t mean that it should be done the same, it just show us if it worked or not, and if it did an we do it again. If it can be done again, can it be done better with today’s technology
in order to produce better results.. see POST http://www.salsa-101.com/salsa-101-says-give-life-to-your-promotional-data-with-q-r-codes/

This POST will give you a glimpse of the results of LATIN music promoting in 1981, 1993 and most recently 2011… read on..

And YES !!! Salsa-101 can help you with your promotional needs  !!!

Latin N.Y. Magazine No. 7-81

Money is the factor in the growth of any industry-including the LATIN music industry – including the Latin music industry.
For while it is true that Jerry is probably the only one in the business who has become a millionaire as a consequence of the Salsa explosion, he was also the one who spent the most to foster its growth.
During those peak years, Fania was sponsoring radio shows in California, Polito Vega’s show in New York , and heavenly advertising in Latin N.Y. magazine and the Roger Dawson Sunday Salsa Show.
In the meantime, based on the accomplishments of Fania and the great potential of Salsa, a major South American company has purchased Fania Records for about 15 million dollars. And while Jerry Masucci is still under contract to run the business, Fania has cut their advertising and promotions by at least 80%. This leaves the major responsibility on the shoulders of Ralph Mercado who still manages some of Fania’s biggest stars and who is the only promoter throwing concerts at the Garden (Masucci promotes only one concert a year with The All Stars). Ralph feels that with Fania no longer involved as they once were, that ol’ one -two punch is missing, making it difficult to organize those noise-making events that can again capture the imagination of the public and the press. And since Salsa can’t count on local television or even the radio for strong backing, the music industry must look elsewhere for its support and growth …..

Another factor is the absence of a Jerry Masucci, President of FANIA Records, whose imagination and financial savvy made the ’70s as exciting a music era as the ’50s. Masucci invested thousands of dollars promoting unknown musicians who subsequently became international stars. He bought air time in all the heavily Hispanic populated cities promoting these unknown musicians who are today household words.
More money was spent transporting the Fania All Stars to remote parts of the globe to introduce the world to the sound of Salsa.musicians ….

Latin music: 2012
The top selling Latin digital track of 2010, for example, was Shakira’s Waka Waka (This Time for Africa), which benefitted from the World Cup global exposure. At No. 2 was another Shakira track, Loca, featuring El Cata. No. 3 was Mi Niña Bonita by Venezuelan duo Chino y Nacho. The song was a big radio hit, but most importantly in this case, it was supported by a major AT&T television and online campaign.

The most telling example is Danza Kuduro by Don Omar. The song was a big radio hit in 2010, but now it’s become the top-selling Latin digital track of 2011. What made its online sales rise?
The relentless online presence and promotion from Don Omar himself, who uses his considerable talents as an orator to virally spread the word on his music any chance he gets……

A SALSA Suite in Miami: LARRY HARLOW

A SALSA Suite in Miami: LARRY HARLOW

Afro-Cuban rhythms explode in Larry Harlow‘s jazz-meets-salsa music event! La Raza Latina is the magnum opus of the Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award winner, pianist, composer and salsa innovator Larry Harlow.

La Raza Latina is the magnum opus of the Grammy-winning pianist/composer/arranger Larry Harlow, one of the key artists of the legendary Fania Record label. Premiered in 1977 when the New York salsa scene was in full swing, the music explores the African roots of Latin music with each part of the suite progressing in time and space from the origins of salsa in Africa, to its roots in the Caribbean, through its development in New York and finally into a visionary future.

Featuring a 45-piece orchestra, chorus, dancers and an all-star lineup of musicians, La Raza Latina: A Salsa Suite will have you dancing in the aisles on this amazing journey of Latin music – from salsa’s African roots, to the Caribbean islands, to the streets of New York – all brought to life on stage in the Knight Concert Hall!
