DJ WALTER B NICE aka EL SALSERO MAYOR

DJ WALTER B NICE aka EL SALSERO MAYOR (in his own words)
I am a New York City club/event DJ with over 30 years of experience specializing in the sounds of Salsa Dura and Dance music. I’ve had the pleasure of performing in many of the major clubs in New York City such as Webster Hall, The China Club, The Roxy, Latin Quarters (LQ’s), The Copacabana, and The Palladium to name a few.
For the last two years I have steadily made a name for myself in Salsa industry circles through the popularity of my personalized Salsa music megamixes, which have garnered praise from artists and fans alike. These recordings, which I have posted with regularity on my personal Facebook, SoundCloud, Twitter and Tumblr pages have received thousands of downloads, and have been aired on numerous Latin radio programs around the globe.
As a result of my growing online presence and the notoriety that I received from my DJ mixes, I was soon recruited by Salsa music veteran Izzy Sanabria to be a participating member of his Salsa Magazine collective. As the former Music Editor for Salsa Magazine I generated weekly music playlists, wrote periodical album and song reviews on the latest Salsa releases, and aided in the early development of the Salsa Magazine award show by helping to devise award categories and the full list of award nominees.
My latest musical venture, which has become a passion project of mine, is the creation of NewGenSalsa.com. What started off as FaceBook group page just a few months ago has now evolved in to a full blown website packed with song reviews, music videos, weekly music playlist’s, news articles and more. Our aim at NewGenSalsa is to be the premier promotional forum for new and emerging Salsa artists looking to spread their music to the masses, and our hope is that we can serve as a key cog in elevating Salsa music to the heights of its glory days. We welcome all artists, fans, and music lovers alike to share in our vision.

EL CONJUNTO CLASICO EN GUARO’S CLUB – Broward FL APRIL 27
In any book chronicling the history of Latin music, you will surely find more than a few words about Conjunto Clásico. It is regarded as the premier Conjunto and is respected for maintaining the traditions of its Puerto Rican and Afro Cuban roots.
In describing the Conjunto sound, one must trace back to Cuba, based on the Arsenio Rodríguez Conjunto style that included
trumpets and Tres (similar to a twelve-string guitar) added to the traditional Piano, Bass and Rhythm section. Under the direction and leadership of Ramón Castro, Conjunto Clásico expands on that sound by maintaining the traditions of Puerto Rican influences and that aggressive New York style harmony vocals lead by Tito Nieves, with tailor-made compositions written by Ramón Rodríguez. The unique sound sets this band apart from all the rest.
Latin Grammy Awards nominated for salsa album of the year! For Conjunto Clasico “Recuerdos” Album.
With 18 recordings under its label, Conjunto Clásico has given birth to some of the finest talent in today’s music. They include, Daniel Santos, Tito Nieves, Johnny Rivera, Tito Allen, Rafael De Jesús, Julio Barreto and David Navedo.
The musical arrangements have always been top notch – with the talents of José Febles, Luis “Perico” Ortiz, Marty Sheller, Louis Ramírez, Louis Cruz, Ricky González, Robert Navarro and Ramón Sánchez.

Willie Alvarez @ Club IGUANA NYC – April 12
In your face, take no prisoners, no one left behind, NO TAP Outs !! That my friends, is Willie Alvarez’s style of
of trombone playing. The term “Salsa Dura” gets used and abused, sometimes without thought as
to whom the term is being applied to.
Sometimes musicians get into a rut of playing the same songs over and over, and if the dancers aren’t into it that night even worse.
NOT the case with Willie !! Willie inspires,, the dancers, his fellow musicians, and anyone else near hearing range.
The passion, grit, and “Matrix Level” soulfulness, displayed in his performances is a SITE to behold !
The first video on the right (Soneros del Barrio – Tumba Mabo) is evident of Willie’s prowess as a influencial, awe inspiring trombone player.
If Stan Lee (MARVEL Comics creator) were to meet Willie, he would create a Super Hero and name him Willie ‘El Lococ’ Alvarez ( y mira que de loco, NO tiene NADA)
